The Reducing the Use of Opioids Initiative

Opioid Use After Discharge in Postoperative Patients

An example of a standardized prescription:

Acetaminophen 1000mg (2 extra strength Tylenol) q6h x 2 days (PRN or standing)
Ibuprophen 400mg (1 regular Advil) q6h x 2days (PRN or standing)
Choice of opioids:
Morphine 5mg q6h PRN 10 tablets 
Hydromorphone 1mg q6h PRN 10 tablets 
Entire Prescription expires after 1 month
