Why is it important to promote respectful discourse and treatment of all caregivers and patients?

All patients and caregivers have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.

The Professional Staff at Halton Healthcare Services are committed to supporting a culture that values integrity, honesty, and fair dealing with each other, and to promoting a caring environment for patients, physicians, nurses, other health care workers and employees.

Towards these goals, Halton Healthcare Services strives to maintain a workplace that is free from abuse and harassment and that all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. This includes behaviour that could be perceived as inappropriate, harassing or that does not endeavour to meet the highest standards of professionalism. This covers all forms of communication including verbal, and any digital communication.

Team Communication

Why should we be so concerned with how well we communicate as a team? It has been clearly demonstrated that clear and effective team communication improves patient care and experiences. The VA hospital system in the United States has demonstrated an 18% reduction in operative mortality with the use of Medical Team Training.
